“HEAR US”

“HEAR US”

On Wednesday we were blessed to have a quick visit from a good friend of our second year student, Sister Rustica Kayombo, OSB. Diane Nilan is the Founder and President of “HEAR US”, a non-profit organization that works to help give a VOICE and VISIBILITY to the homeless children and youth of the United States. In 2005, Diane Nilan sold her home, car and most of her possessions to buy an RV, which she named “Tillie”. Since then, she has been traveling across the US in her mobile home and office, working to help raise awareness and to bring help to the millions of homeless children and youth and their families in the USA. (You can follow Diane’s travels on Facebook at Diane Nilan.) Diane has also been extremely influential in getting a bill passed in Illinois called the “Charlie’s Bill” which guarantees an education for every homeless child and youth. To learn more about Diane and her work with HEAR US, go to her website at www.hearus.us. Also, be sure to check out the trailers to three of her documentaries on homelessness at www.ontheedge.niu.edu.
