01 Feb Tet is an Occasion of Joy for Everyone!
Red, yellow and a Five-fruit tray stand out in the picture above. The Sister students from Vietnam including Sister students from Burundi, Guatemala, El Salvador, Kenya, Mozambique, Tanzania and Uganda participate in the most important celebration in Vietnamese culture – Tet, Lunar New Year.
The dining room at ACS was prepared by the students and decorated with handmade trees that had flowers of red and yellow colors. Red and yellow are especially important to Tet, for these colors are believed to bring good fortune. Vietnamese Cha Gio (egg rolls), Tet Cake (sticky rice cake), and candied fruit were enjoyed.
In Vietnam, families attend church to pray for blessings for their loved ones and the children receive “lucky money” as a New Year’s blessing from grandparents, parents, and other adults.
At ACS, New Year wishes were exchanged and “lucky money” which was wrapped in red envelopes hung on the handmade trees. Games were played to win the “lucky money”. A good time was had by all.
