Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools (AI) may only be used at Assumption College for Sisters when explicitly permitted on the syllabus or in assignment instructions. If AI use is not indicated, it is not allowed.
Examples of AI Tools that Instructors may permit:
Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) refers to a category of AI models capable of creating new content—such as text, images, code, or audio—rather than just analyzing or classifying existing data. This generation process works by identifying and predicting complex patterns and structures learned from vast training datasets.
The most recognized type of GenAI is the Large Language Model (LLM), such as ChatGPT. LLMs are trained on massive volumes of text (often from the internet) to understand and replicate human language patterns. While LLMs return remarkably human-like text, a key limitation is their tendency to generate false or nonsensical information, as their output is based on statistical probability rather than factual accuracy.
Like any powerful tool, GenAI must be used responsibly. Students are required to use LLMs and other GenAI tools only in a manner that follows the specific requirements of each course, and is in full compliance with the ACS Academic Integrity Policy.
